The Japanese government has provided fire engines to six local levels in the country, including two in West Nawalparasi. Palpa, Kapilvastu, and Okhaldhunga, as well as Sunwal Municipality and Pratappur Rural Municipality in Parasi, have received fire engines as gifts.
Under the initiative of United Mission to Nepal, the Japanese government has provided firefighting equipment to municipalities that are prone to frequent fires and do not have the necessary budget to purchase fire engines.
When a fire broke out in Sunwal Municipality in the district, it was necessary to seek assistance from Bardaghat and Ramgram municipalities and even from outside districts. Sunwal Municipality Mayor Bimala Aryal said that the arrival of the fire engine will reduce the damage caused by fires in the city and will help in disaster management. ‘The fire engine was in the process of arriving, and some even criticized the purchase of the Scorpio as the vehicles in the municipality are very old,’ she said. ‘We had promised to bring the fire engine too, and today it was fulfilled.’
In this way, the fire engine received at the initiative of Sunwal Community Learning Center and the Japanese government is expected to help control the fire in a timely manner. Since it takes a long time to reach Pratappur Municipality from the local level that has fire engines, the damage caused by fire incidents used to be high.
The fire engine that was supposed to arrive two years ago has been delayed due to paperwork. The 5,000-liter capacity fire engine costs $300,000 and was provided free of charge by the Japanese government.
