He suddenly collapsed after his speech became weak while delivering a speech in favor of industrialists and workers. He was immediately taken to Crimson Hospital in Manigram for treatment by the participants in the demonstration. Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Netra Prasad Acharya confirmed that he died during treatment there. UML District President Yagya Gaire also said that Gautam died during treatment.
Gautam had been campaigning for the operation of industries for a week, saying that one and a half dozen industries in Rupandehi had closed after the electricity authority cut the line and workers were unemployed. In a joint discussion held at the Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday, Gautam expressed his opinion that the movement should be held with the participation of workers.
