Kamal Gautam, the central vice-chairman of GEFONT, who collapsed while speaking at a protest called by industrialists, businessmen and workers of Rupandehi on Thursday to protest the Electricity Authority's cutting of dedicated feeder and trunk lines for non-payment of outstanding fees, passed away this afternoon.

Gautam collapsed while delivering his speech at the end of the demonstration led by the Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which was attended by employees, workers of closed industries, various chambers of commerce and industry, and members of the Rupandehi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He suddenly collapsed after his speech became weak while delivering a speech in favor of industrialists and workers. He was immediately taken to Crimson Hospital in Manigram for treatment by the participants in the demonstration. Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Netra Prasad Acharya confirmed that he died during treatment there. UML District President Yagya Gaire also said that Gautam died during treatment.

Gautam had been campaigning for the operation of industries for a week, saying that one and a half dozen industries in Rupandehi had closed after the electricity authority cut the line and workers were unemployed. In a joint discussion held at the Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday, Gautam expressed his opinion that the movement should be held with the participation of workers. He had come to participate in the demonstration on Thursday leading the workers. He is a resident of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-4, Butwal.
