Farmers in Palpa, who are preparing to cultivate rice, are worried about unseasonal rains. Farmers who are in a hurry to cultivate rice that has ripened in the fields after Tihar have been worried by the rains that began on Tuesday.
Some farmers have started harvesting rice from the day after Tihar, said Ramesh Neupane, a farmer from Argali, Tansen Municipality-14. According to him, farmers in the Argali area had been harvesting rice in a hurry since the day after Tihar. The rice of farmers who had planted it in early Ashar was ripe and was all over the fields. He said that farmers were suffering when it started raining from the cloudy sky after harvesting the rice.
The situation is not only in Argali, but also in the granary Madi Phat. Rice harvesting has also started in Kaligandaki Besi, Rampur, Arunkhola, Kachal, Jhadeva. Most of the rice has ripened and is in Pahelpur. However, Rewat Bahadur Jhedi Magar of Baganaskali Rural Municipality-1, Chirtungdhara said that some relief has been received for the rice that was not harvested due to adverse weather conditions.
He said that relief has come because the rice was ripe and the farmers were waiting due to the weather conditions. He said that the water has damaged the rice of some farmers who have already harvested it. Farmers have said that it affects not only the harvested rice but also the straw. Farmers are in trouble due to the water. Even though some farmers tried to harvest it in a hurry, the water has caused problems in rice, straw and management, said Ramesh Gharti, a farmer from Rampur Municipality-6. According to the agriculture branch of the municipality, the current rains will also affect the overall rice production.
Due to the lack of irrigation canals and insufficient rainfall, rice planting was low in Palpa this year. The Agricultural Knowledge Center has stated that 94 percent of the rice-cultivated land has been planted. Planting could not be done in places where there are no irrigation canals and where there is Chaite rice and maize. This year, rice cultivation has been good in Palpa's granary Madi, Tinau's Kachal, Tansen's Argali, Rambha's Pipaldanda, Tinau's Dobhan, and Mathagadhi's Jhadeva fields, according to the Agricultural Knowledge Center.
Paddy has not been harvested in various parts of Rampur Municipality, including Rampur, Khaliwan, Gejha, and Darchha, as it was planted later. It is time to harvest paddy in some fields of Nisdi and the Hungi fields of Rambha.
In Palpa, annual paddy is cultivated on an area of 8,200 hectares. Here, improved and hybrid Sava, Mansuli, Radha, Khumal, Basmati, US-312, and Savitri varieties are grown. According to the statistics of the Agricultural Knowledge Center, 36,080 metric tons of paddy were produced last year.
