A woman has died and her husband has been injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon in Saureni Jhadeva, Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-4, Palpa.
76-year-old Phulmaya GC died on the spot after being attacked by 37-year-old Min Bahadur Bishwokarma of a local. Her husband 82-year-old Prem Bahadur GC was injured. The injured were taken to Lumbini Medical College Prabhas and then shifted to Lumbini City Hospital, Butwal for further treatment, according to the District Police Office, Palpa.
According to the police, after receiving information about the assault at around 12:30 am on Monday night, a team led by an Assistant Inspector of Police from the Matha Police Station and a Police Inspector from the District Police Office reached the spot.
When the police arrived, Phulmaya was already dead and Prem Bahadur was found seriously injured. During the investigation, the police revealed that Min Bahadur Bishwokarma of Jhadeva had attacked her. During the search that night, he was found hiding in his own house. Deputy Superintendent of Police and Information Officer Hom Prakash Chaudhary informed that further investigation is underway after taking him into custody.
According to Shankar Darlami, ward chairman and spokesperson of Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-4, the elderly couple lived together in the house. Min Bahadur had come to ask for money, but when he was not given it, they argued and he attacked them with a sharp weapon, locals said. The GC couple had received their old-age allowance just a few days ago. It is said that the incident took place after they were not given the money.
Darlami said that the injured Prem Bahadur and the deceased Phulmaya GC were related to each other through Min Bahadur's aunt. The GC couple has a daughter.
