690 prisoners who escaped from various prisons of Lumbini province on August 24 during the Gen-G demonstration have not yet come in contact with the police. Out of 1,569 fugitives, only 879 prisoners have come under the control of the police. The police are continuing to search for the escaped prisoners.
According to Lumbini Province Police Office Dang Information Officer and SSP Sharda Prasad Chowdhury, 879 prisoners were taken into custody by conducting a special operation within a month. "The search operation for others is going on," he said, "We are asking the fugitive prisoners to come in contact as much as possible, those who do not come will be brought under control soon." During the August 24 demonstration, prisoners escaped from Nawalparasi, Kapilvastu, Dang and Banke district jails. Out of the 430 prisoners who escaped from Kapilvastu prison, 141 are still absconding. Chief District Officer of Kapilvastu, Dil Bahadur Tamang, said that 141 prisoners who have not been contacted despite calling for public information are being searched for.
