Facebook as a means of support: from easy treatment of diseases to Akshaya Kosh in schools

19-year-old Shashidhar Panthi of Malika Rural Municipality-7 in Gulmi was suffering from kidney failure three years ago. His family, who was being treated at the University Teaching Hospital, was in poor economic condition.

A campaign was launched on Facebook to save him. Two lakh 78 thousand rupees were collected through this campaign. Which made the treatment very easy. He is currently undergoing treatment. The money collected due to social media helped him in his kidney treatment.

On August 21, 2077, Khagishwara Pokharel of Madane Rural Municipality-2 suffered a broken spine after being chased by a snake. She was deprived of treatment due to lack of finances . After learning about the incident from abroad through social media, his treatment became easier after receiving financial support. She got support of two lakh rupees through social media. So she was well treated.

Five years ago, the house of 81-year-old Nar Bahadur Vick of Malika-7 was completely destroyed by a landslide. He and his wife lost their 23-year-old son in India and became homeless. The news spread on social media on Facebook. Because of this, he got financial support . After collecting a total of Rs 120,000, his house was built. They are now living happily in the same house.

Deepak Khatri of Isma Rural Municipality-1 is suffering from throat cancer. He is currently being treated at the Chitwan Cancer Hospital and his property has run out during his treatment. After that, he started receiving financial support, that too through the social network Facebook. So far, financial assistance of 2 lakh rupees has come for him.

Mekh Bahadur Kumal of Isma Rural Municipality-2 was seriously injured after falling while repairing the roof of his house. He is currently undergoing treatment in Butwal. Due to the lack of funds for treatment, he has started collecting funds from the social network Facebook. Even now, the financial collection continues and his treatment continues. After receiving financial support from the network, there has been a lot of relief in his treatment. 

Baburam Panthi, a teacher of Palukha Secondary School of Isma Rural Municipality-2, conducted this campaign. "The neighbor's brother is undergoing treatment, the financial situation is weak," he said, "social media has become a supportive medium, due to which the treatment has become easier." He has also helped Kumal with 180 thousand rupees.

Another example of how effective social media is, is Akshay Kosh established by Malika-8 Thanapati Basic School. The school has raised an Akshaya Kosh of Rs 10 lakh 70 thousand by using Facebook.

DB Khadka, chairman of the school management committee, said that the money was collected by calling on Facebook within a period of 6 months. "We have discussed our campaign on social media," he said, "many people have helped us by getting information from Facebook." He said that not only the locals but also the neighboring municipalities of Madane Rural Municipality, Dang and Kavrepalanchok have received financial support. The school plans to use the interest from that amount for the long-term educational development of the school. He said that the annual support of Rs 1 lakh 80 thousand is for meeting the minimum basic needs. Khadka says that because of social media, support has been received even during family celebrations.  

Long-term complex diseases have been treated through social media including Facebook. Social media has become an easy way to solve the serious problems of kidney patients, heart disease, cancer sufferers and others. Because of social media, timely information, relief, rescue and financial support are being collected easily.   

At the local level, education, health, transportation and drinking water service facilities and information about inconvenience are also provided immediately. Content including Facebook, Messenger, Tik Tok, WhatsApp, Viber and X have become its supporting means. 

analyst Ganesh Sripali says that everyone has equal access to information and the right to express themselves. "Positive knowledge can be gained by watching the message material," he said, "Many talents have come out through social media." He says that it helps to maintain the relationship even if you are physically far away. "In addition to this, social networks have become effective for gathering support in the treatment of patients, for uniting in social work," he said.
