It has been more than a month since more than 20 rhinoceros from Bardia National Park moved to the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary on the Indian border. So far, those rhinos have not returned to Bardia Park.

In the summer, the rhinoceros who went in search of health reached the border Indian reserve. Because there are plenty of water sources, rhinoceros used to go there for food. According to the head of National Nature Conservation Fund, Bardia, Ajit Tumphahamfe, the number of rhinos is being determined after the end of the rainy season in Asos Kattik.

He said, 'Because the water in the Geruwa river flowing through Bardia Park has dried up, the rhinoceros have reached the Indian Reserve.' Even though the water level in the Geruwa river rises during the rainy season, the rhinos do not seem to have returned.

Sarojmani Paudel, information officer and senior conservation officer of Bardia National Park, said that rhinos are brought to Nepal and India for food and water. He says that because of the biological route, the wild animals come to Bardia Park and Katarniaghat reserve.

According to the 2022 census, there were 38 rhinos in Bardia National Park. Among them, three rhinoceros boys have died due to tigers and natural causes. account via biological route  Wild animals such as elephants, tigers, rhinoceros, etc. The account is under the Bioway Division Forest Office. This year, there is a program to count Gaida at the national level in March.

The officials of the park say that it is difficult to understand the condition of the rhinoceros due to lack of GPS radio collar. The local conservation workers have said that the forest workers assigned for security in the Indian reserve are trying to stop the rhinoceros from Nepal from returning.

In 2010, for the first time, two rhinos reached the border Indian reserve. After that, the Indian Forest Department prepared drinking water and solution for the rhinoceros, said Tumphahamfe, head of National Nature Fund Bardia. He said that if the government does not work for rhino management as soon as possible in Bardia Park, it will disappear from here.

As soon as it got the information that the rhinoceros was in India, Bardia National Park monitored it. Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary of India is located along the Khata International Biological Route, which is connected to Bardia National Park. There was not a single rhino in the Katarniaghat reserve on the Indian border until 14 years ago.

is now becoming a habitat for the rhinoceros that left Bardia Park. 1986  For the first time, 13 birds including 5 males and 8 females were transferred from Chitwan Nikunj to the Karnali River coastal area of Bardia. After that, 70 rhinos were released in Babai Valley.

During the conflict, the rhinoceros reached the point of extinction due to poaching. Out of 83 rhinos that were transferred from Chitwan to Bardia Nikunj, 36 were killed by poachers during the conflict and 24 due to natural causes. Since 15 years, poaching of rhinoceros in Bardia Nikunj is zero.
