Customs evasion goods worth 4 crore seized in Rupandehi

After the District Police Rupandehi stepped up, similar goods imported by evading customs have started to be seized. From July to the first week of August of the current financial year, the police have recovered goods worth 4.4 crores imported in this way.

According to the district police, goods worth Rs 2 crore 17 lakh 87 thousand 359 imported by evading customs have been seized last July. The team deployed from the district police and subordinate units seized the goods. According to Superintendent of Police Pradeep Bahadur Chhetri, in the first week of August alone, goods and vehicles worth 19.4 million 38 thousand 500 have been seized. According to the police, a person involved in the transportation of smuggled goods has also been arrested. 

The goods seized by the police include clothes, hardware, groceries, broiler chickens, red bulls, wiring wires. Four days ago, a pick-up vehicle, electronic cigarettes worth Rs 1 crore 71 lakh 25 thousand were seized from Lumbini area. Superintendent of Police Chhetri said that the recovered items have been handed over to Bhairahawa Customs, Animal Quarantine Office and Revenue Investigation Office for further action.

"To stop smuggling, the police has launched an operation in the border area with special vigilance," he said. According to him, 22 people involved in illegal activities have been arrested during this period. Karki said that 56 motorcycles, 1 truck, 2 cars were also seized. 

When the police is doing illegal soil and sand mining from various places, 4 tractors and 3 tippers have been taken under control and sent to the concerned municipality office for necessary action. The police said that in the first week of August, an Indian and a Nepalese citizen who made fake educational certificates were arrested and the investigation was carried forward.
