The dilapidated and narrow domestic terminal building under the Gautam Budh International Airport at Bhairahawa in Rupandehi is going to be expanded and upgraded.
In the meeting of the Airport Security Committee held on Thursday, the design prepared for the expansion and upgrading of the internal terminal and its construction phase were presented and discussed. According to the general manager of the airport, Pratap Babu Tiwari, the construction process was discussed along with the presentation of the proposed design of the internal terminal in the meeting between the airport security committee and stakeholders. "The current internal terminal is dilapidated and narrow," he said, "we are in the process of upgrading it using the available resources." In addition, a new breastfeeding room, a diaper changing room for children, spacious and comfortable toilets, a cafe, a shop for shopping, a room that can work on a laptop, a green area with children's play equipment, and a charging station will also be built in the passenger departure room, he said. He said that a new hall will be built to accommodate the passengers of ATR and Catogari ships at the same time.
He said that in addition to completing the rest of the construction of the roof of the current terminal building, preparations are being made to build the outlook of the old building to match the architecture of Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. "A new terminal with facilities will be prepared by developing and expanding the old structure," he said.
