Lumbini Buddhism Protection Committee, an organization of monks and nuns, has submitted a memorandum demanding regular electricity supply within the Lumbini Development Master Plan area.

A memorandum has been submitted to Energy Minister Deepak Khadka and Executive Director of Electricity Authority Hitendra Shakya on Thursday to solve the problem as the daily life of monks and nuns is becoming difficult due to the daily power supply being cut off for a long time in Vihars, Temples, Gumba and Chaitya within the Lumbini Development Master Plan.  A team of 12 monks and nuns from Lumbini, under the leadership of Bhikkhu Sagar Dhamma, the advisor of the

committee, submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Energy in the capital, Kathmandu, asking for regular electricity supply. Earlier on Wednesday, the committee had given a memorandum to Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey demanding regular power supply.

Energy Minister Khadka promised that the problem will be solved soon, team leader Bhikshu Dhamma said. The member of the Lumbini Buddhist Dharma Protection Committee, monk Jhangchayuv Hoeser, said that due to irregular electricity within the Lumbini master plan, it was very difficult for the monks and nuns to carry out their daily routine, prayers and meditation.

"There was no hearing when the memorandum was submitted to the Finance and Electricity Office at Lumbini," he said, "That's why the followers of Shanti had to reach Kathmandu."

There is a big problem of electricity in Vihar Mandir of Kosh Master Plan in Lumbini since 5/6 years. "The electricity here is irregular every day," said monk Hoeser, "if it is 10/15 minutes a day, it will be bearable." Electricity goes from one hour to 20/22 hours, how to handle daily life in this hot season of Terai?

In particular, Lumbini Fund has tendered itself to draw electric wires and put equipment within the master plan, so the electricity authority has been avoiding the problems that arise from there. The fund has electrified itself at a cost of 29 crores. Technicians say that there are daily problems due to poor wiring and equipment.
