The police have arrested one person on the charge of selling 197 sacks of subsidy urea fertilizer to the farmers.
Chetna Vikas Krishi Sahakari in Dumra, Mayadevi rural municipality bought it from Salt Trading Corporation in Krishnanagar to distribute it to the farmers of Ward No. 5, Baluhawa. However, on July 11, 15 local people submitted a petition to Mayadevi Rural Municipality demanding investigation and action for not distributing the fertilizer. After the
incident came out, Chief District Officer Dilkumar Tamang instructed that Vashishta Pandey, the owner of the cooperative, was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday. Superintendent of Police Niranjan Dutt Bhatt said that the case will be prosecuted after investigation.
It is said that the cooperative sold the fertilizer to others without distributing it to the farmers. Farmers allege that a bag of urea fertilizer of 50 kg should be sold at Rs 950.
Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal staged a one-hour dharna on Wednesday in front of the district administration office at headquarters Taulihwa, demanding that farmers should be provided with chemical fertilizers easily.
