Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Chetnarayan Acharya has said that the issue of reducing road accidents should now become an agenda of common concern.
Speaking at an interaction program organized by the National Road Safety Council in Lamhi on Tuesday, he emphasized that the reasons related to the accident should be identified and the solutions should be implemented immediately.
Acharya said that road construction standards should be fully implemented, technical condition checks of vehicles before route permits are given, traffic rules should be strictly followed and human negligence should be controlled to improve road safety. ``The road standards are different according to the geography of the plains, hills and mountains, they should be followed compulsorily,'' he said.
He mentioned that behaviors such as driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, blocking the road during festivals, and blocking traffic by hanging ropes are the cause of accidents, and public awareness campaign is necessary to stop this. Physical Infrastructure Development Minister Bhumishwar Dhakal said that it is necessary to identify the cause of the accident and make a solution plan. He said that the province has created a road master plan and it will play a role in maintaining safe roads.
