The industry had set a price of Rs 585 per quintal and the government had set a price of Rs 655 per quintal with a subsidy of Rs 70. The government has cut the amount of subsidy at the time when the farmers cut sugarcane and sold it to the industry and are waiting for the subsidy.
Farmers are yet to receive payment of 1.6 billion rupees for the financial year 2081/82. Farmers are protesting after the government did not mention the subsidy amount in the current year.
They have warned that if the subsidy amount is not ensured immediately, they will start a phased movement.
