With the development of cable cars and infrastructure in Nuwakot and Vasantpur, tourist attractions are increasing and the number of domestic and foreign tourists is increasing day by day.
What you should know
71-year-old Galg Bahadur Kumal Chure is shocked to see the rapid development of Nuwakot protected area. From Tinau rural municipality-1 Nuwakot in Palpa, he has been mining in the hills of Nuwakot since his childhood. As far as I know, there are only 8/10 houses in Nuwakot, and now, daily houses are being built and hotels are being opened. Along with the house built by Dilig Bahadur in the field where he used to dig and grow grain, there is a sharp ups and downs in his past experience and present view.
When Gallagh Bahadur was 15/16 years old, there were few houses and many forests in Nuwakot. However, it was too crowded. People used to come down from mountains like Palpa, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Syangja, carrying ghee to get khasyuli salt. Nuwakot Danda was a place to keep records of the people who came together before Khasyuli falls. There was a rush of people traveling by horse, cart and foot. That situation changed after watching
. Gallagh Bahadur was 35 years old. Butwal-Palpa road was built here. After the road was opened, Nuwakot's luster disappeared. The bustle ceased to be seen and it became deserted. With the speed of time, the situation also changed. Long Bahadur's age went up. The glow of Nuwakot, which began to grow when he was approaching 60, has now become intense. 50 motorbikes, 15/20 cars/jeeps are arriving daily. The number of people who go by cable car is also the same.
Gallagh Bahadur narrated that Nuwakot turned around and regained its sanity with his old age. "It's old people who say that Bamboo and Ace will come back," he said. He said that people used to come to Nuwakot for grief, but now they are coming to have fun. "Times have changed, at that time Nuwakot used to be a place where people used to store heavy salt and stay at night," he said. There are also those who can go by cable car and those who travel by 8 km road are enough.
With the increasing number of people traveling by foot, cable car and vehicles, now Nuwakot is becoming a destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Hotels, restaurants and homestays are available for visitors to Nuwakot. The number of people investing in the development of infrastructure, hotels, restaurants and entertainment in Nuwakot Hill, which is connected with the history of the British war, is increasing in the last 5 years. In Nuwakot alone, 12 small restaurants have been added in the last 2 years. The young businessmen of Butwal and Palpa have an investment of 2.5 million to 2 million in them.
Another Vasantpur hill at the head of Butwal in Chure area like Nuwakot has been buzzing for two years. After dusk, the lights lit on the Basantpur Hill give the impression that the town of Bhairahawa has been brought close to the hill. The glimmer of Butwal seen from Vasantpur and the streetlights connected to Siddharth Highway leads to Bhairahawa in a moment.
The view from Vasantpur is as lovely as it is, but Vasantpur lacks the hustle and bustle of the locals. Only 2/3 houses are local. About 8/10 houses have been compensated and relocated by Lumbini Cable Car. Vasantpur, which is the only commercial area of the cable car, is increasing the attraction of Indian tourists. Indian tourists come to Basantpur to enjoy the cool weather as you can reach Basantpur from Butwal in 10 minutes by taking a cable car from the scorching heat of Butwal. There are no big hotels to stay here. However, the small restaurants are owned by the cable car company. IME Group, which operates the Lumbini cable car, is preparing to open a five-star hotel in Vasantapuma with an investment of more than 3 billion.
Both these hills in the Chure region of Mahabharata have seen rapid growth in commercial attraction in the last 2 years. Butwal sub-metropolitan city in Nuwakot and Tinau rural municipality in Palpa are giving priority to infrastructure development. A road has been constructed from Butwal side to connect Nuwakot along with the cable car and the black paper has also been done. After connecting both Nuwakot and Vasantpur hills by two separate cable cars, the two hills near Butwal have started to become Gulzar.
Stakeholders are increasingly worried about encroachment in Chure area along with Gulzar. Lumbini cable car is in operation in Vasantpur and Siddharth cable car is running in Nuwakot. There is no local investment or ownership in both cable cars. Businessman Chandra Dhakal Group has an investment in IME Group in Lumbini Cable Car and Prabhu Group in Siddharth Cable Car. After the cable car has increased traffic on both the hills, there has been an increase in the opening of restaurants and expansion of the tourist area in Nuwakot. Similarly, in Basantpur, more infrastructure structures are being built by the Cable Car Group.
The Chure range formed during the origin of the Himalayas stretches from the Brahmaputra River in India to the Indus River in Pakistan. Chure range known as Kanchha Pahad is called 'Shivalik'. The Chure range covers nearly 800 kilometers of 36 districts of Nepal. The Chure range extending from East Elam to West Kanchanpur is in Lumbini and in the south west is Bardghat to Bardiya. Its north-south width is 10 to 15 km depending on the hill. The Chure area which is blowing in the south-west reaches the Deukhuri in Dang, forming a narrow neck and blowing again in the Banke and Bardia areas. From the Samthar Terai to the north, the Hocha Hills, the Samathar plains, Khonch and Dun to the south have been protected as Chure areas.
The high and green hills built near the flat land of the Terai have started to become Gulzar after the attraction of internal and external tourists. Like Nuwakot, Vasantpur, about a dozen Chureka hills from Narayani West to Bardia are now opening commercial hotels and restaurants and developing tourist infrastructure.
IME Group has operated the Maulakalika cable car at Chure Danda above Gaindakot near Narayani West. Ila Hotel and Resort is also operating in the forest of Chure area with more than one billion investment of the group. Maulakalika is also a religious place. It is also developing the stolen area as a religious tourism infrastructure. Similarly, along with the development of human settlements, hotels and restaurants are opening in Daunne area of Chure, Samsarnat in Bardghat, Ghaiyabari in Sunwal, Jhingamara above Sainamaina in Rupandehi, Dhankhola area in Kapilvastu, Devikot in Rapti Rural Municipality-9 in Dang.
Samsarnat located in Bardghat Municipality-2 in West Nawalparasi is 6 km away from Bardghat market. There, local businessmen raise local chickens and feed the same dishes to domestic tourists who come there. Similarly, restaurants have also opened in Ghaiyabari, which is 8 km from Sunwal market in Sunwal municipality.
The attraction is also increasing because many areas of Palpa and Terai can be viewed from Ghaiyabari bordering Palpa. Locals also live in Ghaiyabari. The opening of hotels and restaurants is also increasing in Tinau rural municipality-1 Jhingamara of Palpa, which can be reached at a distance of about 12 km from Murgia market in Rupandehi.
Pauwa Hotel Pvt Ltd, which has gained fame in the hotel sector, is preparing to open a five-star hotel in Jhingamara by investing more than 2 billion. The area where Paua is preparing to open a hotel is the entire Chure Hills. Dhruv Neupane, chief executive officer of Pauwa Hotel, said that since the greenery and coolness of the mountain has attracted Indian tourists in recent years, they are preparing to invest in Chure Hill.
"We have already purchased 350 ropani land in Jhingamara," he said, "we are preparing a detailed project and starting the construction work." He says that the Chureka Hills, which are connected to the Terai, have now become a suitable area for tourism business.
Devikot located in Rapti rural municipality-9 of Dang is also becoming a center of tourist attraction recently. After Ridi Rapti Group Pvt Ltd launched a plan with Rapti Agro Resort and Paragliding at a cost of nearly two crores, the attraction in Devikot is increasing. Devikot can be developed as the best paragliding after Pokhara and it is likely to become a tourist destination of Lumbini province, said Man Bahadur Budha Magar, Chairman of Riddy Rapti Group Pvt. Ltd.
''Devikot in Chure region has the potential to become an excellent destination for domestic and foreign tourists, so we are excited to invest in it,'' he said, 'we have already completed a successful test flight of paragliding. We are also opening a resort at a cost of more than 20 million. He said that when the infrastructure is ready for tourists to enjoy using the hills of Chure, the attractive Rapti gorge, Rapti river, Banglachuli and the land of India will attract tourists.
The hills near the Terai under the Chure region are adding to the charm with the coolness and views of the Terai. From Maulakalika to Devikot through Vasantpur, Nuwakot, Jhingamar, the cold wind blows continuously for 12 months. While the temperature in the plains of the Terai is 40 degrees, it is only up to 25 degrees in the hills. Madhav Nepal, a hotelier from Butwal and the chairman of Nuwakot Development Committee, said that because it attracts Indian tourists along with the natives, there has been an increase in the number of hotel businesses opening in Chureka Hills.
'It is our responsibility to protect Chure,' he said, 'while protecting it, we should also take advantage of it. That's why there are more and more people doing business on the awadi land of Chure area. Nepal says that most of the hotels and restaurants opened in Nuwakot were opened on private land and the area of Chure is not encroached upon.
President Chure Tarai Madhesh Conservation Development Committee Program Implementation Unit Office Butwal has been doing conservation work in Chure area which is in 9 districts of Lumbini province. 54 municipalities in 9 districts come under the jurisdiction of the office. Ananath Baral, head of program implementation unit Butwal, said that the scope of work to control or study the encroachment of human settlements and infrastructure construction in Chure is under the Forest Office and President Chure Tarai Madhesh Conservation Development Committee.
"Human settlements and infrastructure works are increasing in the hills of Chure," said Baral, "uncontrolled settlements, infrastructure development, mining, river exploitation are the main challenges of Chure encroachment."
The Chure Range itself is a region of loose sheet rock that has not been fully excavated. Hence it is naturally considered extremely sensitive. Yuvraj Kandel, an environmental scientist, said that if the sensitivity of Chure is not understood in time, it will lead to a huge human disaster.
