The district administration office is going to take action against the farmers who conduct electric current in corn fields to drive away monkeys. Farmers are worried about the loss of ripening corn. In Bato, Chautaro, Gounda, Dandakanda, Baricheu, the villagers have been chasing monkeys by doing watchmanship.
The district administration office has cautioned against doing so by saying that farmers practice electric current to drive away monkeys. In a statement issued by Assistant Chief District Officer Jhavilal Bhattarai, farmers have been appealed not to drive away monkeys by laying bare wire in an unauthorized manner.
It is mentioned that a person who does such an act will be severely punished according to the law, saying that bare wire causes risk. In the statement, farmers who supply electricity have been requested to file a complaint at the local level, police office and administration office.
The Division Forest Office has deployed 20 monkey watchers in the monkey-affected area for three months. Monkeys abound in Sandhikhark, Bhumikasthan, Panini, Malarani and Chhatradev rural areas. According to the locals, there is a complaint that even though the family and the villagers have been keeping watch, they have not been able to stop the large herd of monkeys from entering the corn fields. It has been difficult to save corn as wild animals have caused havoc by damaging crops.
A few days ago, Arghakhanchi Congress submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer Gopal Aryal asking him to find a way to drive away the monkeys. Although the farmers have complained to the local level, administration, political parties and other related bodies that they could not protect their crops due to wild animals, they have not been able to take concrete measures.
In partnership with community forest, the division forest office has deployed 20 watchers, but the local level has not put forward any work or plan regarding monkey control and protecting the maize in the field.
