Palpa has seen the highest number of dengue cases in Lumbini province. Out of the 12 districts of the state, 120 dengue infections have been observed in Palpa in the last 6 months. According to Health Office Palpa, this infection is from January till now.

According to the office, dengue infection was found in patients who came to health institutions such as United Mission Hospital, Palpa Hospital, Lumbini Medical College and other health institutions in Palpa. Madhusudhan Bhattarai, lab technician officer and information officer of the health office, said that dengue was more common in Palpa as the infection was confirmed in patients who came from the district for treatment as well as from neighboring districts. He informed that dengue infection has increased in Lumbini province since the second week of last month. The maximum number of 76 people were infected in Palpa from the end of May to June.

Among Terai districts of Lumbini province, dengue infection has been observed in 70 people in Rupandehi, 27 in Banke, 58 in Dang, 11 in Bardia and 8 in Kapilvastu. In the hilly district of Palpa, dengue infection has increased last year and this year. 32 in Gulmi, 8 in West Navalparasi, 16 in Arghakhanchi, 7/7 in Rolpa and Pyuthan, 3 in Rukum West, the directorate said.

According to Health Office Palpa, the number of dengue infections has also increased due to climate change, increasing heat and suitable environment for mosquitoes to grow. Bhattarai, a lab technician officer at the health office, informed that mosquitoes become more active when it rains and the sun shines. As the average temperature of the earth's surface is increasing worldwide due to climate change, the dengue infection has increased in Palpa because the temperature of Palpa is suitable, according to the health workers.

It is said that the current rainy season has helped the growth of mosquitoes and the infection has spread. In recent years, dengue infection in the district has been increasing every year. Dengue infection was confirmed in more than 400 people in Palpa last year. In order to control the infection, it was found that the infection has increased even though the 'search and destroy' campaign has been conducted through all the local level health departments of the district. Dengue is transmitted by the bite of a female Aedes (Aegypti) mosquito.

Health Office Palpa said that at the end of the previous fiscal year, it searched for dengue-carrying mosquito habitats, destroyed the larvae, and conducted a lobbying program with local levels.

Lumbini state government has sent a budget of 4 lakh rupees for dengue control and public awareness program for Palpa, but 3 lakh 92 thousand has been spent. The office said that the search, destruction and orientation program has been conducted in Jhumsa and Dobhan of Tinau Rural Municipality, Nayranmatles and Pokharathok of Bagnaskali Rural Municipality, Muzung and Chhahara of Rainadevi Chhahara, Tahun and Humin of Rambha, Rupse and Kaseni and Tansen of Mathagadi. Chief Pokharel said that the budget was spent on discussion and interaction with women volunteers, public representatives and the mobilization of volunteers.
