Gallbladder stones have been surgically removed at Prithvichandra District Hospital in West Nawalparasi. This is the first time that an operation has been performed under complete anesthesia of the patient, although there have been obstetric and general surgeries before.
Dr. General Surgeon Abdul Hakimal, Anesthetist Dr. Saba Khan, Medical Officer Dr. A team of health workers including Vijay Prakash Sahni, Geeta Chudali, Komal Sahni, Gun Mahato and others performed surgery to remove the stones. Despite having
equipment, due to the lack of specialist doctors, the hospital had to refer patients who needed surgery to hospitals in Rupandehi and other districts. However, now that there are doctors and health workers required for surgery, surgery services have been started here.
A 13.5 mm stone in the gall bladder of a 25-year-old youth of Palhinandan rural municipality was surgically removed by the medical superintendent of the district hospital, Dr. Nurul Hoda said. "We had the equipment. However, the surgery could not be done due to lack of manpower,' he said, 'now we have 13 specialist doctors who are available in the district hospital, apart from a pediatrician and a mental illness specialist.'
