Planting has been completed in 97 percent of the area in Pyuthan this year. Sowing started from the first week of May.
According to the Integrated Agriculture and Livestock Development Office, 6,525 hectares of area were planted throughout the district, but this year 97 percent i.e. 6,330 hectares of area were planted.
The head of Pyuthan office, Vinod Sharma informed that the planting in the district was completed a week earlier than usual due to sufficient irrigation facilities and continuous rains. Most of the paddy fields here are irrigated through the Jhimruk River and its tributaries. In some areas, it is also very less planted with rainwater. As there is no need to rely on rainwater, the planting of rice in the district is faster than elsewhere.
'When the planting starts in other districts, it may happen that the rice weed will invade here,' Chief Sharma said, 'Irrigation facilities are easy in more than 75 percent of the areas.' Chumansingh Giri, Head of Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project Project Implementation Unit Pyuthan, said that since it is now the season of Chaite paddy to bear fruit, paddy has been brought in for some time and replanted with dry paddy. This year, the area of 400 plants has been expanded for chaite paddy. It is estimated that 1 thousand 48 metric tons of paddy will be produced and 24 thousand 795 metric tons of Barkhe paddy will be produced.
