Babai River Management Office Transferred to Dadeldhura

The office of Babai, Bhada, Aurahi River Management Project, Gularia, which was established in 2007 for Babai river erosion and flood mitigation, has been shifted to Dadeldhura from July 1st.

Now this office will come into operation under the name of Dadeldhura Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project. As 26 percent work is left in Bardia, this office is about to be shifted to Dadeldhura. But on the other hand, due to the lack of sufficient budget for Babai river erosion and flood prevention, the work has not been completed as per the target and has been canceled.

Due to the lack of emergency budget for flood prevention during the rainy season, Gulria, the headquarters of Bardia, is at high risk. Acting head of the project Prakash Bhattarai said that the work of the office has been stopped since Thursday. Even though the office has been cancelled, the employees are confused because the transfer letter has not arrived.

The Babai, Bhada, Aurahi River Management Project established in 1974 for the reduction of Babai river erosion and flood has become insufficient, the headquarter Gularia is at high risk of erosion and flood. Residents of this area are very worried after the office of the project with 74 percent more embankment work was cancelled. Buddhiram Tharu of Gularia-4 expressed his anger that it was unfortunate that the government canceled the project as the floods that occurred in 071 and 074 caused huge financial loss.

This year, due to the lack of adequate budget, Tharu says that if there is no embankment work, there will be unimaginable damage if there is a big flood. This office, which is going to move to Dadeldhura, the home district of Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, will work on cutting the West Seti, Thuli Gad and Budhi Ganga rivers in Doti, Dadeldhura, Acham and Bajura.

Federal MP Sanjay Kumar Gautam said that even though the farmers, who have been affected by floods and erosion since a decade ago, pressed for the project not to be cancelled, there was no hearing. He complained that even though he raised his voice several times in the parliament, he complained that the government's big badness caused great damage to the citizens of Bardia due to flood and erosion.

MP Gautam, who represents this area in the House of Representatives, criticized the decision to move the project in a hurry in the name of cutting costs. The technicians of the project are saying that they cannot avoid the risk of flood and erosion in Gularia due to incomplete work. Although the embankment is incomplete in places including the headquarters Gulriya, if the government cancels the project, this area will remain at risk of flooding and erosion.

The floods that occurred in 071 and 74 had killed 36 people and caused great physical damage.

Name change of Karnali River Management Project

The name of Karnali River Management Project, Rajapur has been changed from Thursday. Project engineer Navin Joshi said that the name of Karnali River Management has been changed to Irrigation and Water Resource Management Project.

He said that this project has been instructed to carry out river management work in Karnali, Babai, Bhada Aurahi and Banke districts. Despite the circular, the budget, staff and other management work has not been done.
