Former Rolpa leader and former minister Balaram Ghartimagar passed away on Friday morning. 87-year-old Ghartimagar was ill for a long time. According to family sources, he died in a hospital in the capital during treatment.

Ghartimagar, who was known as a confidant of the royal palace at that time, held the responsibilities of various ministries including the Deputy Prime Minister. He had created the image of a popular leader since the Panchayat period and had held the responsibilities of MP and Minister for a long time.

In 2017, he became a companion of the then Congress leader of Rolpa, Khadananda Subedi, and together with Subedi, he conducted the 'Gaon Fark National Campaign'. In the early days, he was active in Panchayat politics as the Rolpa Vice President.

In 2018 and 2019, he was at the forefront of the construction and educational development of the new district formed by combining parts of Pyuthan, Dang, Rukum and Salyan. That is why the residents of the district remember him as the 'Father of Rolpa Development'.

Knowledgeable in history, science, Ayurveda and society, Ghartimagar had deep faith in Eastern philosophy. A believer in honesty and correct political commitment, he has expressed his views on politics, development and spirituality in his books.

His brother Bhupan Narayan Gharti was also active in politics and he is currently in America. Balaram has five daughters.

According to former MP Lekhnath Acharya, Balaram was considered as an honest and simple leader not only of Rolpa, but also of the country. Acharya feels that he should always be remembered for the role he played in the development of Rolpa.
