Marijuana has been recovered from the inmates of the district jail. Amid strict police surveillance, the administration has started an investigation into how marijuana got into the hands of prisoners inside the prison.
District Jail Chief Man Bahadur Saru, who was transferred recently, said that 5 grams of ganja was found under the extension of Sohan Dhakal, who was serving a sentence in the case of killing on duty. 'Did you put the marijuana yourself or did someone put it? An investigation is underway,' he said.
Jail chief Saru said that a drug-related case has been filed in connection with the marijuana seized under the Dhaka extension. About three years ago, some prisoners, including a Pakistani citizen, were transferred to a prison in Kathmandu because of drug dealing in the prison.
According to the capacity of Bardia prison, 125 men are housed, but currently there are 375 prisoners and detainees. Among them, there are 314 prisoners and 61 detainees. There is a separate prison for women prisoners at the same place. There are 48 women including 28 female prisoners and 20 male prisoners. The forensic science laboratory of the police is going to send the recovered marijuana to Kathmandu for research.
