Dhurkot Child Labor and Street Children Free Municipality

Dhurkot rural municipality has been declared free from child labor and street children.

Chairman Bhupal Pokharel made a formal announcement regarding this on Wednesday during the 17th session of the village assembly. Sujata Giri, Head of the Women, Children and Senior Citizens Unit, informed that after the household survey, the preamble with the survey was sent to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the preamble was approved by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security and a budget of three lakh rupees was received, awareness and counseling on child labor prevention was provided at the ward level, skill training was provided to students who dropped out of school and the ward level was made free of child labor and street children by the municipality.

In addition, the rural municipality is providing residential education to two street children aged 9 and 11 years, 11 people aged 15 to 18 years who have dropped out of school, provided 7-day training related to house wiring under skills. 

During the child labor survey, 2 people are working in a hotel near the center of the rural municipality and 2 people are traveling as co-drivers in a tractor and they have been assigned to their parents.

This announcement was made possible after reducing child labor and street children to zero in Dhurkot Rural Municipality. Bhupal Pokharel, chairman of Dhurkot Rural Municipality, said that according to the criteria of the announcement, they have declared the municipality free from child labor and street children through the meeting of the village assembly. "In the days to come, there will be no children working and on the streets in Dhurkot," he said. We have made the first Dhurkot in the district free from child labor and street children.

Dhurkot rural municipality is the first local level in Gulmi to declare child labor and street children free. Dhurkot announced this for the first time in the district which has two municipalities and 10 rural villages.
