There are 41 Buddha statues on the main road of Mayadevi Rural Municipality of Rupandehi. According to Mayadevi Rural Municipality, 41 idols have been kept from Hatibangai to Mahjidia Chowk of the municipality.
According to Engineer Navraj Dhungana, head of infrastructure development branch of the rural municipality, the statue has been installed at a cost of 48 lakhs.
Chairman Dhruva Narayan Chaudhary said that since the road to Lumbini, the place of Buddha, is through the municipality, the municipality has played a role in promoting Lumbini and attracting tourists.
He said that since the municipality's name is associated with Mayadevi, the municipality has an obligation towards Lumbini, so they are trying to fulfill it. Locals have expressed their happiness after the Buddha statue was installed.
He said that in the next fiscal year, the municipality plans to install high-mast lights at the main square and make bright roads.
