According to the district police office, 66-year-old Purna Bahadur Sarki, who escaped after murdering his 55-year-old mother-in-law Chinisara Sarki, was arrested after 21 years of murdering his 55-year-old mother-in-law Chinisara Sarki in former Siluva Village Development Committee-9 of Palpa, now Purvkhola Rural Municipality-1, Gundanda.

The police team arrested Purna Bahadur, who has been hiding in India for a long time and will return to Nepal on Thursday. Sarki was arrested at Jamunaha customs checkpoint in Banke district, Nepalgunj sub-metropolitan city-15 at 4 am, the police said in a press conference.

According to Police Chief Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, the murder accused was arrested only after a lot of effort. After the daughter of the deceased Chinisara got married for the second time and moved elsewhere, Purna Bahadur admitted to the police that she beat and strangled her to death during an argument. "They were absconding towards India after the murder," said police chief Bhattarai, "we were able to arrest them only after a lot of effort." Police Deputy Superintendent Sunil Malla informed that Purna Bahadur confessed to the murder after the fight. "In the preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that he was beaten at home and taken to the nearby corn field," Deputy Superintendent of Police Malla said. 

Purna Bahadur is being investigated further by the District Police Office, Palpa, with a 5-day deadline as per section 14 (1) of the Civil Code of Criminal Procedure, 2074, from the District Court, Palpa for the offense related to life under the Civil Act, 2020.
