Speaker of Lumbini Province Tularam Gharti has expressed concern that Rukum, which was declared an 'Organic District' a few years ago, is an 'Organic District' in name only. He said that after it was called organic district on paper and for announcement, the expected results could not be achieved because the work could not be done according to the plan.
He said this at the 'Rukum East Tourism Development and Relations Expansion Program with Pokhara' held on Tuesday at the district headquarters, Rukumkot. "Due to the many political entanglements we have, the matter declared as an organic district could not be effective," he said, "There are two types of farmers, one is the real farmer who is connected to production by working. The other is the file farmer who has all the paperwork done but no production. The same file has been surrounded by farmers from leaders to employees. Finally, these kinds of announcements have been limited to empty announcements.
Speaker Gharti said that when hemp produced for various household purposes is named as ganja, it is only understood as a drug. He emphasized that it should be cultivated and sold and distributed legally. In the
program, there was an interaction between the tourism professionals from Pokhara and the stakeholders of the district.
