In various villages east of Rukum, where the central transmission line reaches, the local residents have suffered due to lack of regular electricity service. Due to intermittent power outages, trade, business and the daily life of common people have been directly affected.
Jeevan KC, who is running a hotel business in district headquarters Rukumkot, said that it is difficult to provide services as there is no decision as to when the electricity will come and when it will go. "We have added a walk-up but sometimes the electricity goes off for such a long time that we cannot charge it," he said. But we are having problems when electricity is not coming when we need it. The solution is to build a sub-station here as soon as possible.'
Rukum East, which was connected to the central transmission line almost a decade ago, has a total of 4300 customers so far, Pramod Khanal, head of Nepal Electricity Authority's Rukum East Distribution Center informed.
Sisne rural municipality ward 5 and 6, Bhume rural municipality ward no. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 and ward no. Stating that the central power line reached on 10, 11, 12 and 14, the head of the center Khanal admitted that the electricity service was not regular in the district.
"Initially, the 33 KV line will come from Dang to the sub-station at Dhairenichaur in Rukum West and from there the Madhyapahari Lokmarg will come to the district side by side," he said. As soon as there is a problem in such a long distance, the line should be broken and repaired from the sub-station. This is why the electricity service has not been regularized.'
Stating that they are trying their best to provide regular electricity service throughout the district, Center Chief Khanal said that the work of sub-stations in Sisne's Dhaulaphira and Bhume's Kankri is going on at a very slow pace. He claims that only after the construction of sub-stations in these two places, the efficiency of electricity service will come across the district. The authority has a plan to extend the electricity service throughout the district by bringing a 33 kV line from Rolpa to these two sub-stations.
