Under the Gandak Canal, the Nepali Canal of West Nawalparasi, West Sector has been put into operation at full capacity. Nepali farmers were not able to irrigate due to the accumulation of sand in the Narayani river and the water level was low.
Now, the canal has been operating at full capacity after installation of technology (desiltration) to stop river sand from flowing into the canal.
On Monday, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka of the Government of Nepal and Member of the House of Representatives of Nawalparasi West 1 Vinod Chaudhary inaugurated the desiltration technology.
Minister Khadka said that the government has also upgraded underground and old project canals for irrigation of farmers. He said that the state is working for maximum benefit to Nepalese farmers from Gandak canal and adequate irrigation facility for 12 months.
According to the member of the House of Representatives, Chowdhury said that since the farmers could not benefit from the irrigation facility when the canal was built in 2039 under the Nepal-India Gandak agreement, the sand blocking technology was installed at a cost of 30.4 million. The farmers of this area are happy after enough water came in the canal at the time of keeping and planting rice seeds.
