The Girubari Bridge at Chormara in East Nawalparasi under the East-West Highway has been repaired and brought into operation from Friday evening. On 30th of Baisakh, it was washed away due to overloaded vehicles. As the bridge was not repaired on time, there was discomfort in the traffic operation.

Even during normal rains, when the river floods, it is forced to sit in traffic jams for hours due to frequent diversions. Shiv Khanal, information officer of Butwal-Narayangadh road widening project, said that after repairing the bridge, traffic was started on Friday evening.

With this, the construction of a new concrete bridge along with the bridge that washed away on the 26th of January in Binayi river in Dumkibas on the east-west highway has reached its final stage. Under the Narayangadh-Butwal road extension, the under-construction bridge has been constructed with priority and the traffic operation has been prepared before the rains.

As all the construction work of the new bridge has been completed and it will take 28 days for the slope to be set, the road department has informed that traffic will be operated from the new bridge in the next 28 days. The repair of the old bridge that was washed away has not started. Due to which, when the diversion is carried out time and time again, the vehicle has to be operated through an alternative route which is about 25 km long.
