While the forest, police and locals have been searching for a leopard for six days, the residents of Balapur were shocked after another attack on a leopard was attempted on Sunday. After the attempt to control the leopard was unsuccessful, the locals started searching with homemade weapons such as sticks and sickles in their hands since yesterday.
When the leopard tried to attack him while he was coming from Basgarhi municipality Damauli on a bicycle, the villagers chased the leopard away. It is suspected that a leopard has entered the thick bushes and ripening maize fields of the Tharu community forest. Shobindra Bahadur Chaudhary, a ward member of Gularia Municipality-5, said that the villagers are guarding with sticks and sickles in order to save their lives due to the fear of leopards.
"The village is terrorized by the terror of the leopard," he said, "Parents are working day and night to protect the children." Ram Kumar Chaudhary, information officer of the division forest office, Bardia, said that two elephants, 40 forest, Bardia Park and National Nature Conservation Fund personnel have been deployed to search for the leopard.
Locals have become alarmed because the cheetah may attack again. After the cheetah tried to attack a Batuwa, a large number of Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been mobilized. Last Wednesday morning, a 5-year-old girl Saira Tharu of Gularia Municipality-5 Balapur died after being attacked by a leopard.
9-year-old Melina Khadka was also killed in a leopard attack in Sayu Community Forest located in Gulria-8 on 15th Baisakh.
