The ring road is closed to control the leopard

The forest administration has closed the ring road connecting Walapur of Gularia Municipality-5 to Tulsipur of Ward No. 4 to control the leopard.

The ring road passing through the Tharu community forest area has been closed and two elephants have been mobilized to control the leopard. The division forest office has informed that it is closed because it is dangerous to come from the ring road and it is difficult to control the leopard. For two days, staff from Bardia National Park, National Nature Conservation Fund and Divisional Forest Office along with technical teams have been mobilized .

On Wednesday morning, a 5-year-old girl Saira Tharu of Gularia Municipality-5 Walapur died after being attacked by a leopard. Ramkumar Chaudhary, Information Officer and Senior Forest Officer of Division Forest Office, Bardia, said that 40 employees have been deployed for leopard control. "Employees are deployed 24 hours a day to control leopards," he said.

Leopards are being monitored by flying drones in nearby areas including Walapur, Santoshi Tol. In addition, camera traps have been placed inside the community forest. Chief District Officer Rudradevi Sharma said that the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been mobilized for security. She stated that technicians and staff of related offices including two elephants have been mobilized for security and leopard control. 

9-year-old Melina Khadka was killed by a leopard attack on 15th Baisakh in Sayu Community Forest located in Gularia-8. Four people have died in Bardiya due to leopard attacks since December. During this period, 16 people were injured in the leopard attack, according to the Division Forest Office.
