7 Municipalities of Gulmi declared as 'Fully Institutional Obstetrical Services Municipalities'

7 Municipalities of Gulmi have been declared as 'Fully Institutional Obstetrical Services Municipalities'. Malika rural municipality of the district was declared in 2078 as the country's first local level municipality with full institutional maternity services.

Inspector Gopal Karki, family planning supervisor of health office Gulmi, informed that 7 villages of Gulmi along with Isma rural municipality have become fully institutionalized maternity villages along with Malika on Sunday. According to him, along with Malika, Chhatrakot, Dhurkot, Rurukshetra, Chandrakot, Gulmidarbar and Isma Rural Municipality have been declared as 'Community with full institutional maternity services'. In which Chandrakot, Gulmidarbar and Isma were announced this year, other municipalities have ensured sustainability.

Resunga and Musikot municipalities have not announced even though all pregnant women have delivered in health institutions. This municipality has not prepared for the announcement due to the criteria that there should have been zero home deliveries for the previous three years. 

Kaligandaki and Satyavati Rural Municipality have not been declared as 'Community with full institutional maternity services' due to the main and mandatory criteria that the number of home births should be zero in a financial year. According to the statistics of Health Office Gulmi, 1/1 pregnant women under Kaligandaki's Bhurtung Health Chowki and Satyavati's Big Lumpek Health Chowki gave birth at home.      Soon after

, Madane Rural Municipality is preparing to announce a 'Fully Institutional Maternity Municipality'. Basant Bhusal, Head of Health Branch of Malika Rural Municipality, said that they have declared 'Zero Home Delivery' or 'Fully Institutionalized Maternity Hospital' for the first time because they have fulfilled the standards of the Directorate of Health.

Health institutions have 90% of pregnancy check-ups 4 times, 95% of deliveries by skilled midwives, zero number of home deliveries and 90% of 3-times delivery check-ups. There are currently 66 Worthing Centers in the district.

The health branch in the municipality works in this regard. Health Office Gulmi monitors. After that, the District Reproductive Health Committee hands over the relevant certificate to the municipality. The chairman of which is the head of the district coordination committee. 

Drona Khatri, head of District Coordination Committee Gulmi, said that the health sector is an important indicator of human development. "The municipality is making efforts to announce and ensure this," he said. He said that the municipality with full institutional maternity services is showing positive health indicators.
