Emergency rescue exercise related to 'bomb threat' at Bhairahawa airport

An emergency model rescue exercise related to 'bomb threat' was conducted at Gautam Budh International Airport on Monday. The exercise was about how to safely land the aircraft, passengers and crew in the event of a bomb being placed on any flight. Such an exercise was conducted in the rescue and fire control complex on the south side of the airport.

After completing all the preparations to be done in an emergency, a model rescue exercise was conducted. On Monday morning, the airport staff, Nepali Army, Armed Forces and Nepal Police as well as the representatives of the relevant agencies involved in emergency situations participated in the exercise. During the

exercise, various teams were prepared for coordination and rescue. It was shown how those teams perform their responsibilities. Fire engines, ambulances and other emergency equipment were kept ready.  As an example for

practice, 'false news' was spread that a bomb had been placed on a flight from Malaysia. After the news, an emergency situation was created at the airport in Bhairahawa. Chief District Officer, Security Chief, Red Cross, health workers were present along with the airport management after the emergency situation was created. All agencies were assigned roles and responsibilities.

A model of a bomb was placed on an old ship at the airport to practice rescue and coordination in an emergency. The security personnel took the airport staff as passengers and took them out of the plane safely. After that, the necessary treatment was given after understanding their health and mental condition.

Nepali army team was shown disposing of the bomb on the ship. Information Officer Vinod Rawat informed that the Gautam Buddha International Airport located in Bhairahawa has been conducting this exercise every year. "Last year, emergency drills were carried out in full capacity," he said, "this time, the drills were carried out by imagining the situation of a partial bomb threat."
