The Lumbini state government has initiated the procedural discussion on the creation of an Act on Dalit rights. The preamble of the Bill on Dalit Rights has been advanced by the Ministry of Social Development for discussion.

Social Development Minister Janmjay Timilsina has started discussions regarding the creation of Dalit Rights Act. Social Development Committee Chairman Yam Bahadur Nepali, members of Lumbini Provincial Assembly, representatives of Chief Minister's Office, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Ministry of Internal Affairs were present in the discussion program held at Ministry of Social Development, Rapti Valley (Deukhuri) on Thursday.

The draft of the bill prepared with the aim of ensuring the rights of the Dalit community has been sent to the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning. The participants in the

discussion expressed their belief that the proposed Act will play a positive role in raising the standard of living of the Dalit community. In addition, the participants were also of the opinion that more consultation is needed so that necessary amendments and suggestions will be included in the Act.

Stakeholders have expressed a positive response to this step taken by the Lumbini state government in the direction of social inclusion and building a just society.
