Babai, Bhada, Aurahi River Management Project established in 2074 to reduce river erosion and flood will be transferred to Dadeldhura without completion.
The contact office of the project will be at Karnali River Management Project, Rajapur. The project will go to Dadeldhura from next July. Babai, Bhada, Aurahi River Management Project was established in Gularia on October 9, 2007.
The target was to construct 28 km embankment of Babai, 22 km of Bhada and 26 km of Aurahi river within five years. Although the target was to complete the embankment work within 5 years of the project's establishment, due to lack of budget, its target was increased to the period of 084/085.
The goal was to complete the embankment work at a cost of about 4 billion. After the work was not completed, a cost budget of 8.48 billion 48 million was approved according to the revised master plan dated 15th July 2079, according to the project.
Even though the budget is approved, the project's technicians say that the work has not progressed due to the lack of release as per the demand. So far, the project has reported 77.85 percent in Babai. Similarly, project chief Shiv Sah said that only 4.43 percent in Bhada and 2.22 percent in Aurahi have material progress.
The work has not progressed due to the fact that the budget has not been released as per the guarantee. When the office of this project comes, it will go to Dadeldhura in July,' he said, 'The contact office will be in Karnali River Management Project, Rajapur.' Under the
project, the embankment work is being done by Babai, Bhada, Orahi Management Office, Gulria from Panditpur to Lataknia, the border of Nepal and India. According to the project, 2 billion 40 million 95 million has been spent so far. Deepak Chaudhary, a farmer of Gulria-10 Ratnapur complains that with the transfer of the project, the work in the risk area will be incomplete and there will be huge damage during the rainy season.
In 2071 and 2074, about 90 percent of the land in the Babai coastal area was flooded. The flood killed 40 people and damaged more than 500 houses. Gulria-4 Rampur Tappu and Barbardia-1 Dugrahi settlement were washed away.
At that time, the master plan for controlling the Babai River was created. Babai, Bhada, Orahi River Management Office was established at the initiative of MP Sanjay Kumar Gautam and water resources expert Dr. Narayan Subedi, who was also the Minister of Irrigation.
