Rupandehi's Tilottama Municipality is going to hold a 2-day Dalit Knowledge Festival. The municipality informed in a press conference held on Wednesday that it is going to celebrate with various programs on 26th and 27th of Baisakh.
In order to bring the Dalit community, which is 11 percent of the population within the municipality, into the mainstream, with the main slogan of 'Different-free city: equal city', the program has been started by including Dalit Gyan Utsav-2082 in Tilotta in its policies and programs, said city chief Ramakrishna Khan.
He said that this festival will play an important role in creating a city of equality and humanity when the Dalit community has been neglected and has no self-respect. Khan said that the municipality is running a program for the rights and interests of the Dalit community in Tilottama and to advance them in professional responsibilities, skill-oriented and income-generating programs by making them enterprising.
Deputy Chief Jageshwar Devi Chowdhury said that since they are going to make this festival a little more refined than last year's festival, it will add a new dimension.
She said that the program will convey a good message for future policy making and will also collect suggestions, so they will conduct the program accordingly. Chief Administrative Officer Narayan Aryal said that he is confident that the festival will give priority to social integration and give awareness results for the end of caste discrimination. He said that the celebration was organized with priority given to 3 subjects. He said that the program will be effective in creating an environment to remove obstacles in these matters by taking care of identity, access and representation.
Various debates centered on the Dalit community on 11 topics, anti-discrimination painting display, song/music performance, federal, state and local level stakeholders' experience and social awareness will be discussed, said executive member Surendra Shri.
According to Ravi Century, coordinator of the Social Development Committee, this festival will make a great contribution to empower the Dalit community and inspire the next generation. He said that Tilottama, which is known as an ISO certified municipality, has set a new example towards building an inclusive and strong society by conducting such a knowledge-centered social program.
He said that the municipality has allocated a budget of 5 lakh rupees for the two-day program, he said that every community will be represented in the program, everyone's opinion will be presented and the pace of building an equitable municipality will be advanced by discussing deep issues.
