In Banke, landless Dalits and squatters of Kohalpur have been distributed Land Ownership Certificates (lalpurja) from Saturday. Landowner certificate distribution program has started in Kohalpur municipality from Saturday.
Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Minister Balram Adhikari started the program by handing over a certificate to Khadke Damai, a landless Dalit of Ward No. 1 of that municipality.
In the first phase, 71 landless, Dalit squatters have received land-holding grants. On that occasion, Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Minister Adhikari said that landless squatters and landless Dalits will not be charged any fee for acquiring land.
He said that if it is found that the land provided belongs to others and not to the concerned person, the parts will be confiscated and the culprits will be severely punished. Mentioning that the local level has been given the right to classify the land, he asked the local level to complete all the work of classification by the end of June.
"All the municipalities have to classify the land and send it by the end of June," he said, "even if the period is completed, the sale and purchase of land will be stopped." Banke has so far received around 54,000 applications for spare parts.
Among the remaining 8 municipalities, the highest number of land acquisition forms have been registered from Kohalpur municipality, the commission said. According to the Commission, 17 thousand 615 from Kohalpur Municipality, 12 thousand 523 from Raptisonari Rural Municipality, 10 thousand 112 from Baijnath Rural Municipality, 5 thousand 258 from Khajura Rural Municipality, 3 thousand 42 from Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan Municipality, 2 thousand 810 from Janki Rural Municipality and the least two thousand 345 from Narainapur Rural Municipality have been registered.
