Sunwal Municipality of West Nawalparasi has purchased two Scorpios at once. A new vehicle has been purchased for public representatives and office purposes.
When the government adopted a policy of cutting unnecessary expenses and not buying vehicles except for emergencies, there was widespread protest after the purchase of vehicles by the city. Locals have protested saying that the municipality, which shows lack of budget, has bought a vehicle with facilities for the people's representative. There has been a lot of opposition to the people's representatives on social media.
Nagar bought two 'Classic S model' Scorpios for 1 crore 22 lakhs a few days ago. According to the spokesman of the municipality, Krishna Prasad Bagale, the first decision to buy the vehicle was made during the executive meeting, so he bought it for office purposes. Stating that the fire department is essential in the city, Bagale said that the issue of purchasing a fire department is also being discussed.
Last January, a fire broke out in a tire warehouse in Sunwal municipality-12 Bhumhi. In the previous years, when there was a fire in the city, the damage was more when the fire brigade had to be called from the neighboring municipality, and the mayor of the city, Vimala Aryal, announced the purchase of a fire engine. However, now, instead of a fire engine, after buying a vehicle with facilities, there has been an all-round protest.
Chief Administrative Officer Sheshkant Paudele said that the budget has been implemented as per the allocation of the budget for the purchase of vehicles from the Municipal Assembly. 'Other municipalities have also purchased vehicles, this is a regular process. There is no need to exaggerate the legal work,' said Paudel.
Deputy Chief Surya Prasad Dubey has also expressed his displeasure regarding the purchase of vehicles. The Ministry of Finance had sent a letter not to spend on plans and works like new vehicles, training, furniture.
