Lumbini Press Club and Federation of Journalists, Rupandehi Branch, during news gathering, demanded action against those involved in the attack on APWAN Television reporter Radheshyam Vishwakarma in Mayadevi Rural Municipality-6, Rupandehi on Tuesday by a group.

Both the organizations submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer Vasudev Ghimire on Tuesday afternoon and mentioned that the group surrounded Vishwakarma while filming the scene of transporting goods and tried to physically assault them and forced them to remove the footage captured on camera.

In the presence of the local police officer, taking away the camera and forcing the scene to be removed is an act against the freedom of the press, both organizations have demanded the immediate arrest of the Deepesh Yadav group involved in the incident and bring them to justice. In a memorandum signed by Lumbini Press Club General Secretary Prakash Neupane and President Kamal Rayamazhi, it is mentioned that the accused Dipesh Yadav, who was involved in the attempted attack, has been arrested by the police as soon as they were informed about the incident.

The police said that the accused had been arrested in the afternoon and that they would be brought under the scope of action, but Yadav was not arrested on Monday evening, so there is a strong suspicion of collusion by the security agencies in the incident.

Federation of Journalists President Dinesh Pandey while presenting the memorandum said that the attempt of mass attack on the journalists engaged in news gathering is a sensitive issue in itself. "It is a very serious matter to ask the police to remove the scenes captured on camera," President Pandey said.

Chief District Officer Ghimire said it was sad that journalists were attacked while collecting news independently. "If it is true that the scenes captured in the camera were ordered to be removed in front of the police, it has become more serious," he said.
