The police team that went to the house to find more evidence regarding the son who was arrested in the case of drug trafficking in Kapilvastu, arrested the father himself with an illegally loaded gun. 58-year-old Gangaram Tharu of Wanganga Municipality-1 Bairia was arrested from his house on Friday evening.
A team deputed from the area police office, Pipra, while searching Gangaram's house, found an illegal loaded gun hidden in his bedroom. According to District Police Office Kapilvastu Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohanmani Adhikari, Gangaram was taken into custody after the gun was recovered.
According to the police, Gangaram's 25-year-old son Prakash Tharu was arrested on 17th Chaitra with drugs (brown sugar) from the border area. The team of the local police office seized 4 grams and 50 milligrams of brown sugar hidden inside the tank while checking the motorcycle number Lu 9 P 2771 in Mayadevi Rural Municipality-3 Bargadawa.
During the investigation of the same drug case, the police had taken permission to search Prakash's house, suspecting that more evidence could be gathered. The DSP officer said that illegal guns were recovered from Babu Gangaram's room during the search.
Gangaram, who was arrested, will be prosecuted under the Arms and Weapons Act, and his son Prakash is being investigated under the Narcotics Act, the police said. The arrested Gangaram and Prakash are father and son.
