In the upper reaches of Upper Rolpa, a rare wildlife red panda conservation program has been conducted. With the financial support of Red Panda Network, the second phase of the project 'Community Based Red Panda (Habre) Conservation Project-2' has started.
According to Human Rights Awareness Center in Rolpa, the project has been conducted to pay attention to the protection of the habitat of the red panda, a very beautiful wild animal. President Bholanath Acharya said that the program was conducted in Sunchahari Rural Municipality in East Rolpa with the financial support of Redpanda Network. In the first phase, the program was conducted in Rolpa along with Dolpa, Rukum East and Rukum West. In the first phase, the program was held in Thabang, Sunchahari, Gangadeo and Parivartan Rural Municipality along with Rolpa municipality.
The second phase of the project will last for 5 years . There will be research and monitoring of redpanda habitats, public awareness development, habitat management, and promotion of sustainable livelihood programs for local people. Since the program area is located in Sunchahari Rural Municipality and there are 5 community forests and 2 schools within it, the goal of the program is to make the local people participate in protecting the Red Panda by expanding public awareness. According to the police, a few years ago, some people were arrested from Dang and Pyuthan along with red panda skins that were stolen from this area.
In the initial period, RedPanda Network spent 1.5 million budget and plan to spend 3.9 million budget in the first year of the second phase is . The executive director of Hurek, Raju Acharya, said that the first phase of the program was affected by the corona virus and could not run for the entire period.
