The police have arrested 24-year-old Pradeep J.I. Keshar Khadka, Information Officer of Division Forest Office, said that he was arrested for his involvement in the incident of arson. He has been kept in the custody of the District Police Office for further investigation.
To investigate the incident, the Division Forest Office has appointed Dashiram Choudhary as the investigation officer. According to the Forest Act, 2076, setting fires in the national forest is considered a punishable crime, and if the charge is confirmed, there is a legal provision that can be punished with imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 60,000 rupees or both.
The Lumbini state government issued instructions to bring the people involved in the fire incident to justice. The Division Forest Office has requested everyone to be alert saying that the cooperation of common citizens is necessary in fire control and forest protection.
When a fire broke out in Pandanda on 18th of Chait, local Lok Bahadur Thapa's three-storied house, Rail Bahadur Thapa's mud shed and Tilak Bahadur Rayamazhi's mud house and toilet were destroyed. One buffalo, one pado, 9 goats and 59 chickens in the barn were destroyed by fire. A fire in the forest near the house reached the house.
According to information officer Khadka, an area of 12 hectares of forest has been burnt. He was arrested after the locals informed the forest office that Jisi set fire to the forest while he was grazing goats in the forest. Jisi has refused.
