The situation of non-communicable diseases is becoming complicated

Since the situation of non-communicable diseases is becoming more complicated than communicable diseases in the district, it has been emphasized that communication workers should create awareness in rural areas to avoid this.

In the awareness program held on Saturday for the media workers organized by the Health Office, it was emphasized that everyone should use the pen from their respective areas as the media is the conductor of awareness. Head of District Health Office Gaurab Dhakal said that many people are dying every year due to lack of awareness of heart, respiratory and cancer which are non-communicable diseases in Kapilvastu.

In 1990, most deaths were due to tuberculosis, but according to the data of 2019, most deaths were due to non-communicable diseases, said Malaria Inspector of the Health Office, Ratnlal Sharma. He said that among the non-communicable diseases, heart disease, cancer, respiratory asthma infection, tuberculosis and diabetes are the most common causes of death of many patients. 

To reduce the risk of non-transmissible infections, Sharma said that alcohol consumption should be stopped, physical exercise should be prioritized, salt and sugar intake should be reduced, tobacco consumption should be avoided and attention should be paid to the use of vegetables and fruits. He said that lifestyle, diet and exercise should be improved to prevent non-communicable diseases. It is said that the main cause of non-communicable diseases is diet and lifestyle. 

In 2019, a comprehensive and nationwide study was conducted by the Ministry of Health and Population and the Health Research Council with the support of the World Health Organization. According to a study report published the following year, 71 percent of deaths in Nepal are caused by non-communicable diseases. Among the causes of death, 71 percent of non-communicable diseases and nearly 8 percent of vehicle accidents were observed, Dr. Kapilvastu Hospital Medical Officer.
