Banke Branch of Nepal Journalist Federation has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the local administration condemning the killing of journalists and the attack on media houses.
The team of journalists led by the district president of the federation Naveen Giri reached the district administration office on Tuesday and requested that the killer of journalist Suresh Rajak be identified and arrested immediately.
Rajak, a journalist of Avenues Television, who was reporting during the movement of royalists in Kathmandu, died in a fire on March 15th. While submitting the memorandum, Chairman Giri submitted the memorandum to the Assistant Chief District Officer Khadananda Khatri, mentioning that the journalist who was working in reporting was murdered, drawing attention to find the guilty and take action immediately.
Giri said that there is no situation where journalists can report confidently and the state should be serious about the safety of journalists. Mentioning that killing journalists, attacking journalists and vandalizing and setting fire to media houses in the name of protest are criminal activities, Giri warned that if the state does not punish the culprits, relieve the dead and treat the injured, there will be a step-by-step strict protest. The Federation of Journalists has given an ultimatum to fulfill the
demands within 7 days. After receiving the memorandum, Assistant Chief District Officer Khatri promised to send the memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office immediately.
