The meeting of Lumbini Province Disaster Management Council was concluded on Tuesday. In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Chetnarayan Acharya, 11 different agendas were discussed.

Lumbini province is at risk of multiple disasters. There is a natural risk of earthquake, flood, landslide, lightning, hailstorm, heavy rain. There is an unnatural risk of epidemics, fires, water accidents, road and industrial accidents. 

Chief Minister Acharya said that for effective disaster management, effective work has been carried out by taking into account the pre-disaster situation, the disaster situation and the post-disaster situation.

The meeting has decided to allocate budget for the river erosion protection of Palpa's tourist destination Ranimahal, Tansen's squatter settlement protection, Banke's Rapti river erosion risk mitigation, Karnali river's Bardia National Park's area connected to the irrigation works.

According to the details so far, in the current fiscal year 2081, a total of 1,752 disaster incidents have occurred. In which 298 people died. 641 people were injured and 18 people are still missing.

Compared to the year 2080, the human loss has been more in 2081. Last year there were 1 thousand 220 incidents. 76 people died. 196 people were injured. 

Similarly, in the current financial year 2081/82, 1 crore 21 lakh 22 thousand rupees have been distributed for relief and reconstruction. 1 crore 637 thousand rupees have been distributed for relief and 14 lakh 85 thousand rupees for reconstruction. A plan has been put forward to link disaster relief with insurance and make it related to skills and production.

Chief district officers informed about pre-disaster preparations in the meeting.  Health Minister Khem Bahadur Saru, Provincial Assembly Member Indrajit Tharu, Chief Secretary Bavuram Adhikari and others addressed the meeting and emphasized on cooperation between the community, security agencies and the government to make the disaster management work effective.
