The service was suspended after two TwinOtter aircraft owned by the airline were grounded
According to the data of Nepal Air Service Corporation, Gulmi's Resunga Airport, which has the highest number of passengers in the country, has resumed operations after three months of closure.
The air service was stopped after the two Twin-Otter aircraft of the Nepal Airlines Corporation, which were flying here, were grounded.
There used to be up to 4 flights here in a week. Suman Thapa, Head of Resunga Station of Nepal Air Service Corporation, said that flights have started again from Monday. "Even though there are four flights a week, our airport is one of the best in the country after Bhojpur, which has a lot of passenger flow," he said. The 19 seat capacity aircraft is always full. The aircraft is flying from Kathmandu at 6:30 am and from Resunga Airport at 7:30 am. The corporation has fixed the fare rate for Resunga from Kathmandu at 7,500 and from Resunga to Kathmandu at 7,300. Due to high air pressure at the airport during the afternoon, flights are being conducted only in the morning.
16 years after the start of construction, regular flights have been started from 29th Baisakh 2080, so far 91 flights have taken place at the airport. According to the airport, 1,169 passengers traveled from Gulmi and 1,112 passengers from Kathmandu. Thapa, station chief of the airport informed that the income was about 16 million during that period.
The foundation stone of the airport was laid in 2063 and construction started in 2071 and construction was completed only in 2079 after 16 years. The length of the runway of the airport, which was built at a total cost of 330 million, is 520 meters and the width is 20 meters.
The only road that goes out of the district from the hilly district of Gulmi through Palpa is narrow, often under maintenance, and during the rainy season, landslides occur in Siddhababa and other places, so road travel is difficult. Therefore, residents of Gulmi and neighboring district Arghakhanchi also travel to and from Kathmandu by air through Resunga airport.
In the beginning, on 24 January 2079, Tara Air's plane was said to fly regularly after a test flight, but later it was made a regular flight with an agreement with the airline for easy and cheap service to the passengers.
