Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, can be made a center of international spiritual tourism by spreading Buddha's teachings.
Laying the foundation stone of Thukche Choiling Monastery in Lumbini on Friday, former President Bhandari said that the importance of Buddha's peace, compassion and education has increased even more today.
Gautam Buddha showed the path of non-violence, compassion and peace. His teachings have inspired millions of people around the world. However, even today, due to competition between some developed and powerful countries, ordinary citizens have to become victims of shelling, live in fear and terror of violence,' she said, 'Therefore, the relevance of Buddha's peace, compassion and teachings has increased even more today.' Lumbini should be known as a place that inspires peace.'
Mentioning that Lumbini is the birthplace of Buddhist philosophy, she held the view that Buddhist education and philosophy should be developed as an international center. The custodian of the monastery gave a token of love to the former president.
In the program, the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chetnarayan Acharya, said that Lumbini's monasteries should contribute significantly to spread the teachings of Buddha around the world. He said that Lumbini should be made a spiritual center and attract tourists. In a different context, he said that it is also important to discourage holding plots. Member of the House of Representatives Vasudev Ghimire, Member-Secretary of Lumbini Development Fund Sanuraja Shakya and President of the monastery Chhiring Jangbu Tamang gave speeches in the program. 
The two-and-a-half-storey monastery, which is to be built by Thukche Choiling Monastery in the western area of Lumbini Development Master Plan, in plot number W-14, reflecting the Mahayani and Himalayan tradition, said that the work will be started within three years, and the work will start within three years.
