Stakeholders have said that although the local government has prioritized and invested in youth-targeted programs, the results have not been achieved due to lack of youth participation. Stakeholders have emphasized that the participation of youth in such programs should be increased in order to utilize the investment.
In the second youth conference held by Rupandehi's Tilottama Municipality on Saturday, the participating staff said that despite conducting youth-targeted programs, there was no result, while the participating youths complained that the local government was interested in including them.
Madhav Prasad Pokharel, officer of the youth branch of the municipality, emphasized that a program should be set to bring the youth to the leadership level. However, due to the lack of awareness among the people's representatives of the municipality, participation in youth targeted programs could not be increased, he said.
'We also accept that we have not been able to conduct many programs for the youth,' he said, 'Despite implementing programs of the latest ideas and styles, it is a matter of concern that the participation of the youth is zero.'
He said that they are positive to make Tilottama a youth-friendly municipality and bring them to the leadership level in every field. Former Vice President of the National Youth Council, Madhav Dhungel, said that the practice of saying 'we' should be implemented to include everyone, not just me.
He emphasized on the need for collective action to bring the youth to leadership. He said that it is important for everyone to understand the importance of life as it is important to have a human body. "Since the laws created by the local government are for everyone, they should be made beneficial and include everyone from children to the elderly," he said. He said that the municipality should identify the youth who are looking for opportunities and provide them with the necessary support.
"We ignore the fact that the government has not done anything and plan a trip abroad, that is wrong," he said.
He said that this is not the time to sit back and the youth should increase their own activism in order to take the lead. Ravi Century, the coordinator of the social subject committee under the municipality, claimed that the municipality is trying to give hope and confidence to the youth by representing more than 66,000 youth within the municipality. He said that
has been trying to increase the participation of the youth by conducting various discussions on youth issues continuously for three years.
