Installation of 95 cameras in Kamdi corridor to understand the condition of wildlife

95 cameras have been installed in Kamdi Corridor of Hariyali Community Forest located in Raptisonari Rural Municipality-3 Baisa of the district. Cameras have been installed in the corridor to observe the movement, habitat, protection and various activities of wild animals.

Shankar Prasad Gupta, Divisional Forest Officer of the Divisional Forest Office in the district said that cameras have been installed at various places in the forest complex for monitoring and protection of tigers and food species. He expressed his belief that the connection of cameras will help in reducing the conflict between humans and wild animals.

'We have not done this level of monitoring in the Kamdi corridor. It will provide information about the number, density and diet of tigers,' he said, 'you can know how many species of tigers and diet there are.' He says that working with camera 'tapping' will help in reducing the conflict between humans and wild animals. According to him, Kamdi Corridor is considered as a forest area connecting India and Nepal.

Sanjay Kandel, program officer of the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), said that the camera taping installed in the Kamdi corridor will reveal whether the tiger has roamed in this area or not. "Biological trails are more important than keeping wild animals in themselves, whether they are able to move the surrounding wild animals or not. It is easy to study the direction from which tigers and other wild animals have migrated,' he said.

Currently, 95 cameras have been installed in the Kamdi corridor and around 35,000 hectares of forest area to monitor tigers and food species. He said that the camera will be monitored for 15 days and the details obtained will be made public.
