Mohi farmers staged a dharna at the Malport office in Ghorahi on Sunday, demanding rights to the land of Swargadwari Guthi. Due to the dharna, the work of the office has been interrupted and the police is trying to remove them.
The farmers raised slogans with slogans such as illegal ownership of land should be ended, previous agreements should be implemented, exploitation should not be done in the name of religion. Spokesperson of Mohi Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, Praveen Choudhary, said that after protesting for a long time, there was no hearing.
They held various protest programs in Ghorahi from February 8 to Chait 7. After that, the government promised to fulfill the demand through negotiations.
39 Mohi farmers from Dang are on an indefinite sit-in at Maitighar in Kathmandu since January 20. The farmers of Ghorahi also protested after they were not heard even when sitting on a sit-in.
On 14th Chait 2062, the Supreme Court ruled that Swargadwari Guthi is a private Guthi of a special nature. Mohi Kisan was deprived of getting the right to the land after the order was issued that the land registered in the name of the ashram should not be fragmented and embezzled in any way so as to affect the autonomy of the ashram. Of the 1034 bigha 17 kattha 7 dhur land of Swargadwari Ashram, Mohi is maintained on 753 bigha land. There are 3,500 households on that land, in which more than 15,000 members are dependent.
