Illegally mined river products from Khajura River in Bardghat Municipality of West Nawalparasi have been seized by the municipality.
The municipality has launched a campaign to control illegal mining. Under the same campaign, the municipality took control of 93 tractors and 24 tippers on Friday and Saturday.
Illegal extraction and dumping of river products from Khajura River at night is increasing. Locals have said that stones, gravel and sand are being smuggled before the contract is awarded.
Although the Bardghat municipality contracted the river in the current financial year, the contract was canceled in the final stage because the forest area was shown in the environmental impact assessment report. Shambhulal Shrestha, the mayor of Bardghat Municipality, said that the illegal dumping was confiscated by mobilizing the police and city police and necessary action was taken.
In other areas of the district as well, the illegal export of river products has increased due to the failure of river contracts on time.
